The Great Southern Bake Off is a tasting competition for local small businesses to earn bragging rights while helping to raise money for the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

The Great Southern Bake Off is open to all restaurants, bakeries, hotels, storefronts and home-based licensed cottage businesses. The competition will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 1 PM in the Vendor Hall.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony which starts at 4 PM on Sunday, September 26, 2021. It is not necessary for participants to be present to receive awards, although it is strongly encouraged.

Prizes include a commemorative plaque, recognition on our online platforms, cold hard cash and of course bragging rights!

Important Deadlines & Times

The appropriate registration fee of $55 must be submitted online no later than 11:59 PM EST on Thursday September 16, 2021. NO late entries will be accepted once registration has closed.

This year’s competition will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 1 PM in The Ultimate Sugar Show Vendor Hall at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

Competitors are required to check-in and set-up between 10:45 AM and 12:45 PM in the Vendor Hall. Set up will end promptly at 12:45 PM.

During the set-up process, competitors are asked to neatly display their servings along their provided front facing table space. 

PLEASE NOTE: Although competitors are required to provide servings in a 4 oz serving cup, they should still remain mindful of their table presentation.

We strongly discourage prepping serving cups inside of the Vendor Hall. Servings should be pre-sliced/dished prior to entering the Vendor Hall.

Competition Requirements

Participants must prepare at least 1 item from the 5 dessert categories listed below. Participants are allowed to compete in more than one dessert category.

Dessert Categories: Banana Pudding ~ Peach Cobbler ~ Cupcake (Any Flavor) ~ Red Velvet ~ Sweet Potato Pie

Competitors are required to provide at least 200, 4 oz servings from at least one category in order to compete. For consistency, all competitors are required to provide their dessert servings in a 4 oz serving cup.

Competitors are ALSO required to provide signage to identify the dessert category & any potential allergen risks. Failure to provide the appropriate signage will result in removal from the competition.

Competitors must ALSO provide a printed copy of their recipe for judging purposes only. This information will not be released to the public.

Competitors must ALSO provide an additional 7 servings of each category to be presented to the judges with the printed recipe.

Keep in mind that competitors will be judged on presentation. Therefore, the judges will expect proper plating when being presented with your dessert entry(s).

In total, competitors should be prepared to have a total of 207 servings of each dessert entry in order to compete in the Great Southern Bake Off.

Competition Provisions

Competitors will be provided one front 6 foot table with black tablecloth for displaying & handing out competition servings.

Competitors will be provided one rear 6 foot table with black tablecloth to serve as storage and workspace.

Competitors will be provided a 8.5”x11” table sign which will include the company name or Chef's name.

Four Weekend passes will be provided to the competitor & up to 3 assistants beginning September 25. Passes should be picked up at the registration desk prior to or during check-in on September 26.

No storage, no refrigeration, no sinks (except in adjacent restrooms) and no electricity will be available in the competition area.

Any entries that are deemed inappropriate, in poor taste or potentially hazardous in the opinion of the judges will be eliminated from judging and potentially could be removed from the competition.

Attendee Participation

Attendees can purchase a sample container for $5 which entitles them to receive a maximum of 6 servings per container. Attendees can purchase multiple containers if they would like more than 6 servings.

Stickers will be provided to each competitor that will be placed on the outside of the attendee's container so that they can keep track of the number of competition samples they've received.

The proceeds from the Great Southern Bake Off will go to benefit the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Upon purchasing an empty container, attendees will also be provided a voting ticket. Between 1 PM and 3 PM on Sunday, September 26, 2021, attendees with a voting ticket can cast a vote for their favorite overall competitor/dessert.

The winner of this vote will receive the Great Southern Bake Off's People's Choice award.

Judging & Winner Selection

Competitors have the opportunity to win one or more of the following titles:

~ Best Banana Pudding

~ Best Peach Cobbler

~ Best Cupcake

~ Best Red Velvet

~ Best Sweet Potato Pie

~ Best Overall Dessert

~ People's Choice

Excluding the People's Choice, the winners of each Great Southern Bake Off category will be decided by a panel of distinguished and qualified culinary professionals.

Attendees who purchase a Great Southern Bake Off container will also be provided a voting ticket to cast their vote for their favorite dessert.
