In this cake class, designed for beginners and intermediate bakers, students will learn how to safely use isomalt to create a beautiful cake topper by using 3 different isomalt pouring techniques.

About Your Instructor

Tammy Varela, a native Georgian from the metro Atlanta area, is driven by her love and passion for creating art and baking that brings joy to people. The expansion into edible art reflects her commitment to making others smile. Over the years, Tammy has been blessed with numerous opportunities to enhance and develop her skills. She has participated in cake shows, competed on various Food Network shows, and achieved the prestigious Rising Star Award at the American Cake Awards in 2023. Additionally, Tammy has contributed tutorials to esteemed cake magazines such as American Cake Decorating and Cake Masters.

Having earned a Fine Arts degree from Georgia College & State University with a major in drawing and painting, Tammy discovered her true passion. Despite having some of her oil paintings exhibited for sale in Helen, GA, her career path initially led her to management in a Fortune 500 company. However, the persistent call of her artistic and baking passion eventually prompted Tammy to change careers in 2014. This decision granted her the freedom to delve into her creative side. During her search for a wedding cake, the realization of the potential for edible art pieces became unmistakable.

Equipped with the fundamental baking skills inherited from her grandmother and mother, Tammy embarked on a journey of learning by taking local Wilton classes, focusing on decorating with fondant/gum paste. Expanding into various edible mediums, she discovered a particular affection for working with sugar/isomalt. This versatile medium allows her to pour, pull, blow, and sculpt, capturing her heart and becoming a central focus of her artistic expression.
